Easter Holiday ideas in London: things to do

Easter Holiday in London
With St. Patricks day coming to an end and Easter just around the corner, London is inviting you to join us for a short stay, a family vacation or even a business trip (our motto has always been work hard but play harder) in the fantastic city of London - the financial and cultural capital of the world!

Easter has traditionally been a family period, with many deciding to spend the holiday with their loves ones. Admittedly this is still true, however more opportunities have become available to those who would like to spend the weekend otherwise, this is especially true due to the fact that the easter period has diversified from simply being a religious holiday to now including a plethora of different activities, festivals and celebrations during the same time frame.

Before we discuss the new possibilities, lets not forget about traditional easter celebrations such  as egg painting, easter pastry baking, egg box and hat crafting, and of course - easter egg hunting (followed promptly by stuffing your face with as many chocolate easter eggs as you can find), a simple google search along the lines of “easter egg hunts in London” should just about do the trick so get your diary ready and start planning.

One extraordinary way to spend the easter holiday in London!

One extraordinary way to spend the easter holiday is to visit the “All of this Belongs to You” exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum - the worlds largest museum of decorative arts and design. Conveniently located on Cromwell Road, only minutes away from our Queensway fully serviced apartments. During the exhibition you will be able to examine the role of public institutions  (such as the V&A  Museum itself) in modern day life. The FREE (all the more reason to visit) exhibition includes many displays, installations, online commissions, and events - more than 40 different new acquisitions along side other loaned objects will be on display for all of you see.
Another way is to watch the world renown Oxford vs Cambridge boat race. Only days after the easter bank holiday, this long standing tradition is a must see. It features some of the top athletes from across the world representing both the Oxford and Cambridge boat clubs, each fighting to maintain authority over the other, at least for a year. However that is not all as this year is all the more special because this is the first time in history where women will also participate in the event - another reason to be part of the 300,000 strong crowd preparing to watch the spectacle as it happens along the river Themes (running all the way through London) on a Sunday afternoon. After the race is over be sure to return to your fully serviced apartment and rest until tomorrow, when you will be able to continue your adventure through the city of London.

If everything listed so far just isn't your cup of tea, then be safe in knowing that more is yet to come. The music lovers in all of us  will be pleasantly surprised by the UKG festival -  a 15 hour festival aimed at celebrating British garage music (a distinct music genre originating from the early 90’s). The 2015 lineup of artist is still wrapped under layers of secrecy however even if its half as good as last year’s performance, it would still be worth visiting.

Further more, the festival venue is the famous The Coronet Theatre which is conveniently located near the Elephant and Castle underground station: making it accessible from almost anywhere in London at a minute’s notice.

Another activity at the top of our personal list of favourites is the London Marathon. This annual event hosted in the city has seen everything, from pro athletes to fancy dressed men, women and children which all have one thing in common - raising money for charity. So if you don't intend to participate in the event (it is rather tedious to run 26 miles dressed as a chicken) then be sure to show support for those who do by cheering on the competitors through-out- the entirety of the event. The fact that the marathon is slightly more than 26 miles in length ensures that there are a number of conveniently placed pubs and restaurants along the way, so you can show support for those running while being in the comfort of friendly company, tasty food, and thirst quenching drinks (many of which will most certainly be of alcoholic nature).

That wraps up our list of special activities during the Easter break, be sure to book a short stay with ShortLet-London over the easter period to see what London has to offer.
