Spring is coming! Things to do in London in March and April

Spring is a season of re-emerging beauty, fresh smells and vibrant colours – all of which can be witnessed across London’s many parks and gardens. The world renowned Royal Botanic Gardens Kew; the highly acclaimed Chelsea Physic Gardens (one of the world’s oldest apothecaries’ gardens); and the outstanding Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park, are only a few of the excellent parks across London, all of which are culturally significant and have great facilities which include fantastic picture opportunities: catering perfectly to all nature lovers which are considering a vacation in London over the spring period.

However, there is so much more to do than appreciate nature. London is a culturally diverse city with population nearing the 9 million mark. Needless to say that many religious and cultural festivals take place over the course of a year – one such festival in particular is Saint Patrick’s Day. This festival commemorates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, while also celebrating the Irish culture in general.  Celebrations often include public parades followed by prompt visits to the pub as Lenten restrictions regarding alcohol are lifted, encouraging a tradition of alcohol consumption.
On the 15th of March, London’s very own St. Patrick’s Day parade will jig, crawl, roll and walk its way through Piccadilly, Lower Regent, Cockspur Street, Trafalgar square, and Whitehall - only minutes away from our very own fully serviced apartments. Celebrations will continue on the 17th of March - St Patrick’s Day itself.  If you chose to participate in the celebrations, then we recommend that you consider an entirely green attire (wearing green on St Patrick’s Day is often considered to bring good luck, while also paying tribute to Ireland’s heritage).

If partying isn’t your cup of tea, relax in one of London’s tea rooms, and when you’re done, participate in London’s very own marathon on the 26th of April.  The London Marathon is one of Britain’s most famous sporting events and is on the list of top 5 international marathons. However it isn’t purely a sporting event as there are many millions of pounds being raised towards charity every single year.

Before you participate in the marathon, make sure to head down to the Themes and watch the world famous Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge on the 11th of April. This long standing rivalry between Britain’s top universities (arguably the best in the world) dates back to the early 19th century, and ever since then, both universities’s boat clubs have conducted annual competitions to settle who is the best, once and for all (at least until next year).

If the Boat race doesn't float your fancy, then make sure to participate in the annual Oxford vs Cambridge goat race. Yes, thats right, GOAT race. This parody of the boat race is held only a couple of hours earlier and is often used to predict the winner of the boat race, so much so that the results are often kept secret until after the boat race is finished, so as not to demoralise the athletes.
Sounds like a busy spring period so far? Don’t worry, there’s plenty more where that came from… Just remember to take a break and relax in one of our apartments so as not to tire yourself out from all nonstop partying and sightseeing.

See you soon.
