At night time Camden Town attracts locals, people from neighbouring areas and tourists from around the world as it offers numerous bars, restaurants and pubs, clubs and music/performances venues. Visit the pubs Buck's Head, Oxford Arms, Camden Bar and Kitchen, these places are serving good meals. Electra Theatre and Camden Head also host open mic sessions and live music events, Hawley Arms is famous for rock-n-roll bands plying live. The highlight here is Camden Lock Tavern, which has DJs bar and a lovely roof top garden. The best London Rooftop Gardens

Since the weather has finally improved and we can feel the summer vibes, it is time to open the season of the rooftop bars and gardens. There are plenty of rooftop terraces in London, but how to know which one has got the best atmosphere? Short Let London is here to help as always, so please read on.

Dalston Roof Park, an urban utopian oasis over looking London's skyline

Our favourite place is Dalston Roof Park in Print House, which has opened this week. Apart from the stunning views of the city the rooftop will make you feel like in the fairytale with its green grass and spring blooms, brick chimney and yellow bright chairs, the wooden shack is a pop-up bar and offers frozen margaritas to the guests. During the summer there are some events scheduled in collaboration with Arcola Theatre, outdoor film screenings and gigs, barbeques and other foodie evenings. Another great rooftop bar and kitchen with appetising menu soon opens at the Queen of Hoxton, it also boasts with Rooftop Film Club. Visit Rooftop Cinema at Queen of Hoxton for screenings of some mainstream movies, the curious thing is everyone is issued with headphone so you do not need to worry about making noise.

Ramadan Mubarak in London

Ramadan Mubarak in London
Ramadan Mubarak in London
Today is the finish of an important religious time in Muslim countries and cultures around the world. It is a Generous Month of the year – Ramadan (“Ramadan Kareem”). We would like to dedicate this article to all our Muslim friends and to wish them a very happy and glorious Ramadan!

Short Let London would like to get an insight into the traditions and meaning of this religious holiday. Ramadan takes its origin from the holly book Quran, according to which this is when the prophet Muhammad first received the revelations in the lunar month of Ramadan. It is a ninth month in Islamic calendar and starts after the astronomical new moon, as it usually marks the beginning of a new month. Ramadan is the sacred month of the year and also the time of fasting, which is obligatory among all adult Muslims, as long as they are not ill, pregnant or travelling. From dawn until sunset people should restrain themselves from consuming food, drinking, smoking and having sexual relations or swearing.

London has no bad weather, every weather is fun!

Speaking about typical London weather many of us would picture foggy streets with dull and grey sky above the Big Ben. Well, it may be just partly true, rarely you experience foggy weather in London nowadays. The weather in London has temperate oceanic climate and distinguishes four classical seasons.  London is beautiful and attractive in any season. It is nice and exciting to visit its sights and events at any time of the year.

A manual to surviving the heat-wave in London

We have been waiting for this for so long and now when summer has properly landed into town, everyone starts complaining about the scorching weather, overcrowded parks and hot sweaty transport. To help you to avoid the discomfort and enjoy summer in London, Short Let London has prepared a manual for you on surviving the heat wave.

To get that feeling of being on a holiday you do not need to be on a fancy resort, just go to the seaside, as we know England is surrounded and washed by the sea waters. Brighton is the most popular town on the coast and it is situated not far from London, but bear in mind that it gets too crowded over the weekend so you will hardly find a comfortable spot on the beach. If you want more relaxing weekend away then head to some other coast towns, there are many of them, which are not less beautiful or remote: Southend-on-Sea, Newhaven, Eastbourne, Hastings, Portsmouth, Bournemouth to name just a few. If you have more time for visiting England then we would recommend going to the Cornwall also known as “The World`s End” and is known for its outstanding nature beauty.

However, if you prefer to stay in the city of London we are happy to give you the list of the best outdoor swimming pools and lidos in London. Luckily, there are some good places to seek a rescue from the high temperature and have a nice dip, Hampstead Heath Ponds are just on the doorstep of Short Let London apartments and flats for rent in London. There are three ponds in Hampstead – for men, for women and a mixed pond, you can enjoy the marvellous scenery, unchlorinated waters and wild nature, including swans and ducks. Another favourite is Tooting Bec Lido – the largest open-air swimming pool in the UK and it has been around since 1906. On the south from Hampstead Heath is Parliament Hill Lido (you can get there from Gospel Oak Overgorund), it is famous for its cold and shimmery water, created by stainless steel liner (the only one in the UK), there is also a cafe if you need to get a chilling drink. In Central London we love Oasis Sports Centre – a real oasis near Covent Garden and Holborn with outdoor terrace, heated swimming pool and a cafe; and Serpentine Lido in Hyde Park – a swimming area in the main pond of the park. It doesn’t get any more central than this and when you are in Hyde Park, why not to visit a Serpentine Gallery, where a new installation Serpentine Pavilion is designed by Japanese artist Sou Fujimoto. The other outdoor swimming pools are Pools on the Parks Richmond, Park Road Leisure Centre, Brockwell Lido (Dulwich), Finchley Lido Leisure Centre, London Fields Lido, Hampton Lido and The Berkley Hotel stylish outdoor pool in Knightsbridge (as well as very pricey).

To stay cool and well in the heat just follow some simple rules and tips: always have a bottle of water with you in case you feel dizzy, wear the shades and protect yourself with a stylish hat, wearing comfortable clothing is also crucial, choose cotton and linen fabrics, avoid the synthetics, cool yourself with your favourite iced coffee, frappuccino, ice-cream and healthy smoothies. This is a perfect weather to embrace the sunny beams so try to spend as much time outdoor as you can – some ideas are parks, rooftop bars and gardens, open air theatres and cinemas, Short Let London will be happy to assist you during your short stay in London. 5 advantages of renting a private apartment for your holiday in London

Rent a private apartment for your holiday in London
Renting a private apartment or flat for short stay in London is a very attractive and favourable option for visitors, who are coming to London for holidays, in business trips, students and interns, or UK citizens in between homes. Holidays apartments and short term rentals have several advantages against staying in the hotel; here is a brief recapitulation from Short Let London.

Apartment for your holiday in London:

  1. First of all, vacation homes and rentals are significantly cheaper than hotel prices; this is a perfect solution for budget travellers and a way to save money for your entertainment and leisure time. Especially prices in Central London hotels are extortionate, and it is possible to find affordable apartment for rent in good location.

  2. Secondly, you can enjoy your privacy in the flat, where only you have access to, without no one (e.g. room service) disturbing you. Unlike shared accommodation or hostels, which are only slightly cheaper, you won`t have to share any of the facilities with other tenants, the bathroom is en-suite and the fitted kitchen is for your own use.

  3. You will have a privilege to feel the comfort of home in your privately rented apartment, as here you have freedom to carry out every day activity.

  4. Self-catering flat means you can cook your favourite meals or even have breakfast and coffee in bed. This is cheaper than eating out each day, and you will not be bored of the same breakfast menu served in hotels every morning.

  5. Security is another advantage of a rented home. Short let apartments are usually safer than public hotels, where cleaning staff have access to your room. For Short Let London the safety of its customers is among priorities. You will have private keys to your apartment and a security lock, so always remember to double lock the doors and your belonging will be safe. Rental agency is also responsible for fixing any damages and maintaining the properties in working living conditions to high standards.

Short Let London will help you to find a perfect and comfortable place that will be your short term home during your holiday in London.

Guy Fawkes Night 2014: spectacular fireworks! Event in November

Do not miss the spectacular fireworks display tonight (5th Nov 2014) in London! Today is Guy Fawkes Night or Bonfire Night as it may also be known. Thanks to Guy Fawkes, a man who wanted to blow up the House of Parliament together with the King, we have a reason to set off the fireworks and light the bonfires. It all started back in 1605, when a group of Catholic conspirators decided to get rid of King James I by placing barrels of gunpowder in the cellar right under the House of Lords. The violet plot was discovered and the conspirator’s plan failed. Guy Fawkes was tortured and executed for this attempt to kill the king. Happy people went to London streets and lit the bonfires in order to celebrate their king’s survival. Since then, every year on the 5th of November it became a tradition to set alight bonfires and display fireworks throughout Great Britain.

So tonight is the fireworks night. London organizes many bonfires and firework displays across the city. No matter where you are going to enjoy the colourful blinding lights, you will definitely have a jolly time. The most famous places to go are Southwark Park, Crystal Palace and Wimbledon Park. There you also can treat yourself with hot food, drinks, and dance to cheerful music. Another popular place is the Parliament Hill in Hampstead; from there you can watch several fireworks set from all sides around London.

Remember, remember the fifth of November! In fact, when you go to watch the fireworks, live your dog at home and don’t take any alcohol with you as it is prohibited. After the spectacular night have a good rest in your warm and cosy apartment provided by Short Let London. Contact our team for a holiday short term rent in London, we offer accommodation for short let in Central and North West London for affordable price.

Day out with a difference: afternoon tea

When you say to people Cockfosters most of them will have a sly chuckle, as well it`s an amusing name, however have you ever been there? For something a bit different this summer you can get lost in the Ferny Hill Farm Maize Maze. From Cockfosters tube station it is a 45 minute walk or a 5 min taxi. When the Maize is high it is quite a challenge especially trying to find every single piece of the puzzle and map. Situated next to the maze is the Ferny Hill Farm tea room and shop that has a variety of organic foods and fresh produce. The cream teas are a must especially.
Cream tea (also called afternoon tea) is another lovely English tradition, taking tea between lunch and dinner time. The traditional cream tea is tea served with scones, jam and clotted cream (or butter for a light version). You can also choose from the variety of different cakes, tarts and cupcakes, or even canapés. Here is Short Let London recommendation of good places for cream tea in London, probably the best tea is served at Fortnum and Manson, however it can get pricey and it`s better to reserve your table in advance. More affordable place that we could advice for our tenants is Bake-a –boo in West Hampstead area, as it located very close to short term apartments in London and our properties for short let (Kilburn Park, Swiss Cottage, Kilburn areas, etc) and has got an amazing dolly atmosphere and grandma chic with colourful tea pots, mugs and net curtains. Some other great afternoon teas are served at Bond and Brook (Fenwick), Beams of Bloomsbury, The Ritz, The Berkeley hotel and Palm Court at the Langham. Visit these cute London tea rooms and houses for amazing British traditions to experience something different in London. Short Let London wishes you bon appetite!

Where the British Royals Live: pictures and videos

Definitely the most famous royal house is Buckingham Palace. All tourists admire the facade of the palace with its distinguished balcony and like to watch the spectacular Change of the Guards. By the way, next time when you pass by the Palace, have a look if the Union Jack is on the top. This will mean The Queen is home at the moment. We can also visit the queen’s residence (though one has to make an effort to get the entrance tickets). The inner yard of the Buckingham Palace looks even more gracious than the front. Many official occasions, banquets, lunches and garden parties are held by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh here. Even a few weeks ago there was a big football match played by the oldest teams of the Amateur League. We believe Her Majesty was glad they did not break any windows during the game. The house interior reflects the tastes and richness of its previous royal residents. It has the most fascinating and rare art collection in the world. If you are lucky to be inside the palace, take your time to admire the Grand Hall and marvellous Grand Staircase with the old portraits on the sides. Did you know there are 775 rooms in the palace? Don’t they get lost there? Parts of them are offices and the State Rooms, where the Queen works. They say, she doesn’t like living in Buckingham Palace that much and considers Windsor Castle to be her real home.

Windsor Castle is one of the oldest and largest residential castles in the world. The Queen Elizabeth II continues the nine-hundred-years tradition of keeping it as a royal home. She and her husband usually stay there over the weekend and the Easter Holiday. New rooms, such as the State Apartments and Semi-State Rooms completed in famous Georgian style, have been opened to the public not long time ago.

Another home for the British royalties is in Norfolk. So you must plan your day out of London and visit Sandringham House and the medieval Sandringham Church nearby. Every Christmas Her Majesty with her family retreats there for the winter holidays. If you happen to be in Edinburg, take a trip to the Holyrood Palace, official residence in Scotland. Elizabeth II and Prince Philip like to spend their time there having picnics and relaxing around beautiful scenery of Scotland. When they are not staying there, travellers can wonder around the elegantly decorated rooms and the unique treasures collected for centuries by the kings and queens.

The most exciting and memorable experience London visitors may have in Kensington Palace, the birth place of the Queen Victoria. Here she spent her childhood and first met her future husband, Prince Albert. When you come in the palace you will get the feeling of how it is to live as a royal. The magnificent King’s Stairs and the huge lightning with thousands of Swarovski’s crystals in the centre will certainly impress you. The luxury Apartments of the Queen Victoria are worth seeing as well. In the beginning of October, Kate Middleton, Prince William and little Prince George finally moved in their newly refurbished home in Kensington Palace. Kate took part in designing her new twenty-room apartment. Their place is not for the public eyes of course. So we can just guess how nice it must be as the Duchess of Cambridge is famous for her classic taste. The young couple rents out their first house, Anglesey. Not sure how affordable it is for budget tourists though.

As we see, the British Queen is quite busy moving around from one house to another. We would gladly provide you with your temporary residence in London. Short Let London has nice and reasonably priced apartments in Central and North West London to offer you for a short term holiday retreat. Hope you will have a pleasant rest in our flats after visiting the royal palaces around the capital.

The as-yet unsexed triplets were born to five-year-old Sumatran tigress Melati, on Monday 3 February 2014, after a 106-day pregnancy.

Three of the world’s rarest tigers have been born at ZSL London Zoo, with zookeepers capturing their first moments on hidden cameras.

The first cub arrived at 12.28 am, the second at 12.59am and the last was delivered at 1.18am. Everything was monitored using a remote camera technology and the animals have been observed 24/7. London Zoo staff never left alone the Sumatran tigress Melati during this period. They have been able to observe their eyes opening and their tentative first steps.
Born in the early hours of the morning and arriving within an hour of each other, the first cub arrived at 12:28am, the second at 12:59am, and the last was delivered at 1:18am, with keepers monitoring the whole birth using remote camera technology but they don’t know whether they’re boys or girls.
With wild Sumatran tiger numbers estimated to be as low as 300 individuals, the cubs represent a huge achievement not just for ZSL London Zoo but for the global breeding programme of this critically endangered species.

Location, location, location…

One of the main questions for travellers who are coming to London for a short stay and for holidays is where to be based during the vacation time. Most of the visitors want to be staying in Central London areas, where they can be close to the major tourists' attractions, sights and landmarks which London is so rich for. Luxury hotels in central areas can be too expensive, and if the tourists are travelling on the budget side, they would also prefer to go for rather cheap accommodation in order to be able to spend more on entertainment and relaxation. However, it is no longer a difficult dilemma and you do not have to choose between convenient location and budget accommodation since there are affordable apartments for short rent on offer in London.

Holiday rentals and short let apartments are an ideal solution when you are planning to stay for short term in London. Even in central areas such as Bayswater, Baker Street, Paddington, Queensway or Warwick etc. it is possible to rent fully-furnished private apartments for reasonable price. Short Let London suggests opting for the areas a bit further out from the centre, which are still very well connected and have good transportation links, so it will not be difficult to get to any other area in London. Holiday flats and short term rentals located outside zone 1 will help you to save your spending and have a comfortable stay, as you can get a spacious apartment with great conditions and living facilities for cheaper price. Short Let London will be happy to assist you in this matter or if you are having difficulties in choosing your short stay accommodation, and this not always has to be a compromise between the price and the quality.
