The best London Rooftop Gardens

Since the weather has finally improved and we can feel the summer vibes, it is time to open the season of the rooftop bars and gardens. There are plenty of rooftop terraces in London, but how to know which one has got the best atmosphere? Short Let London is here to help as always, so please read on.

Dalston Roof Park, an urban utopian oasis over looking London's skyline

Our favourite place is Dalston Roof Park in Print House, which has opened this week. Apart from the stunning views of the city the rooftop will make you feel like in the fairytale with its green grass and spring blooms, brick chimney and yellow bright chairs, the wooden shack is a pop-up bar and offers frozen margaritas to the guests. During the summer there are some events scheduled in collaboration with Arcola Theatre, outdoor film screenings and gigs, barbeques and other foodie evenings. Another great rooftop bar and kitchen with appetising menu soon opens at the Queen of Hoxton, it also boasts with Rooftop Film Club. Visit Rooftop Cinema at Queen of Hoxton for screenings of some mainstream movies, the curious thing is everyone is issued with headphone so you do not need to worry about making noise.

Roof Gardens in Camden Tow, Soho, and central of London

Camden Town also offers variety of rooftop drinking terraces, like Proud Camden and The Lock Tavern with incredible view over the canal and selection of drinks and tasty cocktails. Paradise by Way of Kensal Green is an opulent bar and restaurant on Kilburn Lane, Short Let London apartments and holiday flats are located not far from here. If you prefer to stay more central then head to Aqua Kyoto in Soho and peer over the spectacular scenes of Central London, and Vista roof garden is also an amazing place slap bang in the centre of London located in the Trafalgar Hotel. At the centre of the main art hubs of London – Southbank Centre is Central Bar at Royal Festival Hall with its impressive terrace.

Kensington Roof Gardens: a free extraordinary place to see

If you are in Kensington area, you must see the Kensington Roof Gardens that is accessible to the general public (free) during the day if there are no functions taking place (ring to check before your visit). This place isn't a roof garden but it's a restaurant, club and an extraordinary event venue.

Hidden on top of the old Derry and Toms (later Biba) department store, one hundred feet above Kensington High Street, visitors wishing to explore the gardens just need to go to the reception and sign in - entrance is through an ordinary looking door down a side road. Once you emerge out of the lifts a 1.5 acre expanse with spectacular views opens up to you. The gardens are divided up into three distinct areas; traditional English, formal Spanish and Tudor. The English garden, with its wild woodland theme, appears the most extraordinary, considering its position on top of an office block. Over 100 trees (all of which are under a preservation order), a stream and garden pond with flamingos and ducks combine to create a magical environment that defies its unique elevation. Fountains, vines and palm trees define the Moorish idyll, while the Tudor garden provides a delicate contrast with roses, wisteria, ivy and leafy arches. This really is one of London's secret treasures and worth the small effort required to arrange a visit. More info >> www.roofgardens.virgin.com
